The dog days of Summer

Here in Podunk the Summer has been fairly mild.  Tons of rain has nearly destroyed the garden.  Normally by this time of year the grass is brown, the garden is drying up and we're preparing for winter.  Not this year.  We're still mowing about twice a week and my green beans vines have finally decided to make green beans.  We've picked (2 1/2)  5 gallon buckets full of beans!  It's better than the below zero temps of last winter.
What happened to the yearly Dog days of Summer.  It must be that Global Warming!(sarcasm)
Below is a picture of my youngest son when he was 4 and his best friend Sasha.  We purchased her when he was very young and she passed when he was a teenager.  It broke his heart, he said it was like losing his best friend.  He's all grown up now, 21, and still talks about his best friend Sasha and their adventures.
So why such a random post about our dog?  Blogland can spark many quilty inspirations as well as memories and I felt compelled to share my little story after reading a post over at Sewing Wilde Blog.  The post was mainly about some great quilt blocks and a super cute feather quilt with the sweetest birds.  But my attention was  on Izzie her Golden Retriever.

  1. Oh, I know about the dog thing. I stay on "doggie death watch" with Charlie all the time. In July of 2013, they said take him home and enjoy him - he probably has 2 or 3 months at best because of his heart. They put him on his wildly expensive - brand new - just out of testing - heart medication and he's still chasing squirrels. Even though he's doing okay, I've been on pins and needles for the last year. If he's sleeping and I can see him breathing, I have to stop what I'm doing and go feel his chest. Dogs...they have lots of power in our lives...That's an adorable picture of your boy and his dog. XOXO

  2. You just made me swoop two of our pups up in my lap Lea Anne. It hurts that our pets don't live as long as we wish. It is wonderful though that your son was so very blessed to have a friend like Sasha.

  3. Weather is surely playing up, the earlier part f summer here was much better than normal then august was one of the worst! Personally I am a cat person, silly really but I am a bit frightened by dogs, we did have one when I was a child, this fear has slowly got worse the last couple of years.

  5. It has been a mild and wet summer. I think we are making up for the inferno of a summer we had in 2012!
