My goodness, it's Monday already. It's hard to believe a week has passed by with so little quilty work done. The tomatoes are ripening in the garden faster than they can be preserved. So that's taking up all the quilting time. And then there was the bright idea to make homemade pizza sauce instead of the usual easy canned tomatoes. After about 10 hours of simmering tomatoes and herbs, 2 quarts of sauce! Pardon me for being a little cynical but the bragging rights aren't worth the effort. Oh my almost vegetarian son and his vegetarian girlfriend were impressed Saturday night when I made homemade vegetarian pizza with cauliflower crust. Of course I sent them home with a grocery bag full of fresh tomatoes( Less for me to preserve) and gave them a jar of sauce.
Well here's what been accomplished in the studio this week. Not much! These Periwinkle/Hummingbird blocks finally put on the design wall. Maybe by next Monday they'll be a completed top.
182 blocks = 65 x 70 quilt. Sometimes I wonder what was I thinking!
The Scrappy Baskets quilt is almost done. (block tutorial here) 4 more blocks to quilt, I'm hoping for a Friday finish. Do you think Red gingham binding would be too much? Can you have to much gingham? Not in my world! While quilting this I thought about how this basket block would look so cute with strawberries instead of flowers...a little hand embroidery for the strawberry vines....I may need to make a wall hanging from this pattern.
Linking up with Judy@patchworktimes for design wall Monday.

ReplyDeleteYour Hummingbird blocks are Gorgeous!! The colors just sparkle. Looking forward to seeing your Scrappy Basket quilt completed. I'll take some of your tomatoes. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of all your tomatoes since I couldn't garden this year!
ReplyDeleteLOVE Scrappy Baskets! And red gingham is the perfect.
The gardening does take a huge chuck out of sewing time, but it will be worth it all winter.
ReplyDeleteI love the scrappy basket and I think the gingham would make a great binding.
Great quilt!! i think Gingham would be perfect!! And congrats on all the cooking - I think between the tomato sauce and your hummingbird blocks you are proving that yuo have patience!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't know what that block was called - we have a quilt we were gifted with that pattern on it. Love how colourful and cheery yours is!
ReplyDeleteMy tomatoes are slow at ripening. I like basket quilts with fruit or flowers in them. Sounds like a fun one to make. Happy sewing this week.
ReplyDeleteYou can never have too much gingham! I know how you feel about not getting very much back for all the work sometimes when making sauce.
ReplyDeletethe quilt looks lovely, one of the good things about making all the same block is it seems to take much less time but can get a bit monotonous. Good to see a sneak peek of the basket quilt, teasing us there, hope to see more of it soon. Tomatoes sound mouth watering, shame on me nothing edible in my garden
ReplyDeleteI love both of these projects! Gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the hummingbird block! That's a lot of them!
