Hey Quilty Friends! You'r not gonna believe it...I've started another quilt. Yep this will make 3 quilts going at the same time. It wasn't planned this way(is it ever).
So I had to come up with a plan to get them all done in a timely fashion. I'm all about finishing quilts this year. At least at this point in the year, my plans always seem to dwindle out as the year progresses. Well anyway I'll still be posting one tutorial a week for the Podunk Posy quilt until all the different variations of this quilt are complete. So Friday will be the inner borders tutorial.
Okay on with the new quilt. It's for a very special person that is going through a difficult time. Due to the sensitive nature of this issue I'd rather not get into details on a public forum. But when I heard of their troubles over the weekend my heart broke. As a woman and a mother my first thought is to comfort them, give advice to them and others involved. If there's one thing age has taught me is sometimes you're better off keeping your mouth shut and just take action. So the only action I know to take is make a quilt.
I know this person loves the Lonestar quilt pattern and the symbolism it has in some cultures. That works out great for me because I've made this pattern several times....I think this is # 5.
By Monday afternoon I had a plan with the fabrics pulled and washed.
Lonestar quilts can be a little tricky so starching is a must, at least when this ole gal is making them. I've cut one section out of my color placement paper quilt. This makes seeing each section a lot easier. See the little piece on the right? That's one block, I'll need eight of these. I've numbered each vertical strip set in the block.
All my starched strips are ready to become strip sets.
One more set to make. This strip set method is the easiest way to make a Lonestar. The only tricky part is keeping those strips sets numbered and in order. As you can see I keep my color guide cheat sheet handy at all times.
If you'd like to make a Lonestar there's free patterns all over the internet. I've found some of the best ones at fabric manufactures websites.
This pattern is called The Broken Star. I've not made one, but I will someday...
Gorgeous! And here's an Anglefire tutorial I found yesterday that shows the same technique I use for marking and pinning my quilt for perfect points. Fons and Porter taught me tips via PBS a few years ago, but I couldn't find a free video to share.
