Well... I'm not quite sure if this one is a completed top. The quilt "experts" back in the day would say a quilt needs a border to make it stop. Funny how these rules get ingrained in our brains. Now my sensible side is telling me that a colorful binding would stop the quilt and give it the border I feel it needs.
I'd really like to get this one done so I'm leaning towards quilting as is and slapping on a binding.
Unfortunately I made some cutting errors on the quilt top above so I decided to use up the miscut pieces. I cut to many of the prints and cut the white squares to small. Yeah it was one of those days where you think your head is in the game, so you multi-task only to realize your just making a mess of everything you touch. Luckily the mistakes made a cute little quilt top.
The scallop borders is just too cute. I might need to use this idea on a larger quilt someday.
There were a few more miscuts left over, so I started playing around with another idea for a border....now what do I want in the center?

Oh my goodness but your mistakes are wonderful!! I just love that little quilt of yours. I'd say your top quilt is finished and put a pretty border on it. It's lovely, too, but the one with the circles....Wow!!
ReplyDeleteI don't always do a border, but I think those little girls need one. I'm just saying, I think it would really finish it off nicely.
ReplyDeleteLove the checkerboard quilt at the top! I agree completely about the colored binding.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt, I agree that a binding is enough.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of finishing that quilt top with just a colorful binding. It is so very pretty. I don't think it needs a border to make it stop. I love the little quilt you made with the "mistakes". So cute. The scalloped edge is very unique.
ReplyDeleteWonderful mistakes, Lea Anne - wish mine worked out so well. They are such fresh and crisp tops. Very lovely.
ReplyDelete2 beauties here, re a border I am afraid i do not usually have one just a binding. Have fun working backwards on your little quilt, that should be fun to do and you have shown how you can make use of the cuts that were incorrect, it is a bad day when cutting goes wrong.
ReplyDeleteI would go with just a colorful binding (or even a scrappy one with left over fabrics in the top). Your two miscut blocks quilts are just too cute. I think they are wonderful and very creative.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilts. I've done a few with no border and they look fine. Love the little miscut quilt so cute. I would make a dresden plate for the centre of that border.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, great colours and love the checkboard top. The binding will look great.
ReplyDeleteI love the little 'mistake' quilt-so cute! On the other one what if you just did a small white border and made that center float? But I know what you mean, we were ingrained with that 'gotta have' a border idea and it's hard to change our spots sometimes!
ReplyDeleteBoth of your quilt tops are so sweet. I love those little printed pieces.
ReplyDeleteI hate when I cut something wrong!! You used the mistake pieces perfectly! Well done, they are all beautiful!
ReplyDeleteDid you forget...'There are no mistakes, only happy accidents.'? Everything looks great. L
ReplyDeleteOh, you are good!
ReplyDeleteWaste not, want not, eh? Great save on those miscuts. Love it!
ReplyDeleteAll beautiful as always
ReplyDeletehow about a small tutorial on the scallops? All are so cute!
ReplyDeleteHere's a similar border tutorial. The only difference is I added interfacing to mine to make the stiff for a wall hanging.

I love the big top, but the mini is suh a beauty. If mistakes turn out so beautiiful more often, I would not mind to make mistakes.
ReplyDeleteThat mini! The scallops are darling and so whimiscal (in a good way). :)
ReplyDeleteThe results of your "mistakes" are fantastic. And I agree, just go straight for the binding, no border necessary.
ReplyDeleteMiscuts? What miscuts. Heck, there must be a reason for it since it produced great eye candy. You are extremely creative and I can just see you playing with your fabric.
ReplyDeleteI love when mistakes turn into pretty projects! And I think a little red binding on your quilt is just the thing to 'stop' the design. All your projects are very sweet!
ReplyDeleteI would repeat the borders that surround the blue block.....your "extras" are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThese are so AWESOME! I just love them! Gaaaa, you are so talented! Sigh. I haven't sewn in a long time because I've been setting up the Etsy and eBay shops. Just when I thought I'd have a breather, they notified us that Bloom and Bliss will be here the first of the week. No sewing for me. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the use of the gingham on the bias! So unique and creative; all of them. I so enjoy your beautiful work. Kathy in FL
ReplyDeleteYou definitely "learn" from your mistakes. Gorgeous projects!
ReplyDeletelove your quilts. the colors are so cheerful. "mistakes" certainly make the creative juices flow dont they?
ReplyDeletePretty cute save!!
ReplyDeleteHi there I love your quilts they are beautiful, do you have a pattern for the SCALLOP QUILT please :)
ReplyDeleteLovely and soft and just wonderful. Loving these projects and those scallop edges are sublime!
