Friday Finish ~ Vintage Christmas

Finally a finish!  Whoopie!  Christmas has come and gone but this is still going to be displayed on my couch for a couple of weeks because I love the little trucks.

Growing up we never had a real Christmas tree because mom said they were to much trouble.  Every year I say I'm going to have one of my own.  But then when it comes to actually getting one... I back out.  Call me silly but I just can't see cutting down a tree just so I can put lights on it in my living room.  Maybe this year I'll get a small one that can be replanted after Christmas.

Since this one will be used and displayed the quilting was kept fairly simple.  I can see me cuddled up on the couch with a cup of irish coffee, this quilt and the movie Elf playing. (maybe later in the week..LOL!)

It's the simple things in life that give us the most pleasure and bring back fond memories.  It took us a few disappointing over stressed years of holidays for all of us to realize, the gifts are forgotten but the family fun is always remembered.

We don't dress up in fancy cloths. As a matter of a fact a couple of years ago the dress code was pajamas's only.   It's the only time of year I buy paper plates and plastic utensils.  And as far as gifts, most of the time they are homemade.  Lotions, candles, soaps and home baked and canned goods are common.  One year my oldest son taught himself to crochet just so he could make everyone a scarf.  I was so proud of him for stepping outside his comfort zone.

Of course we still buy for the little ones, I mean what's Christmas without stepping on a few small toys.

Anyway...back to the quilt.

The pattern is called Vintage Christmas, designed by Erica Ardnt at Confessions of a Homeschooler.  You can purchase the pattern by clicking here.

Erica is a new quilt designer. This was her first published pattern.  She just recently publish another,  Winterberry.  You can purchase it by clicking here.  How cute is this!  Yep I see this one in my near future.

She also has designed a free printable blog planner that can be found here.

Hmmm..alot of quilters confessing today.  Not me...there's nothing to tell...wink, wink.

  1. Great quilt. When I was growing up, having a real Cedar tree at Christmas was the highlight of our year. If we'd not gone out to the hills/pasture land, there would have been no tree - we were poorer than church mice! There were so many amazing memories about those trees...too many to list even. My husband and I have had an artificial tree for many years now and it's lovely, too. I LOVE your idea of a real live tree that you can plant after Christmas.

  5. I'm pinning this post so I don't forget how much I want that quilt in my future! We had a fake tree and I got rid of it because it was an odd shade of green and I like the smell and look of live trees SO much better... WORST decision ever! Now I miss having an easy option for those years when I wait until the last minute. And we've got more storage so I could have a tree in the attic as a last resort.

  7. this is a lovely quilt can picture you with the Irish coffee snuggled under it. Loving the way you celebrate Christmas re a tree I bought one 24 years ago with roots and kept it in a pot outside bring it in every Xmas until it outgrew a pot and then planted it in the garden, imagine my dismay when I came home in february after spending Xmas with my sister in Australia in 2001 to find silly husband had dug it up and used it in the house then did he replant no that was the end of the tree and the marriage was over soon after too!!! Not had a tree since

  9. This quilt is adorable! I love the idea of Christmas in pajamas, I might suggest it for next year as I noticed the quality of dress was waaaaay down this year. Like, torn jeans and dirty shirts down. At least pajamas are comfortable and should be whole... We haven't had a live tree since my husband and I first met, our house and two cats currently do not allow for one. I sure do miss the lovely smell they have though. I keep saying we should plant a tree out back and decorate it instead. Maybe someday. Thanks for sharing!

  12. This quilt is simply delightful, I think it's great that you are using it now. We do have a "real" tree at Christmas, but in recent years we keep gift-giving simple--and mostly for the littles. Except that I love finding random little things and making ornaments for stocking stuffers for everyone.
