~ FREE 2020 Home Again BOM by Erin Russek ~

Hello sweet quilting friends!  I'm so excited to tell you about the 2020 Home Again block of the month designed by Erin Russek of One Piece at a Time blog.  I've been a huge fan of Erin's for many years.  Her style and color immediately caught my eye way back in the day.  I'm not sure how she labels her style but when I look at her quilts I see a little Pennsylvania Dutch, Hungarian Art with a touch of whimsy.

She has gave us a sneak peak last week at this years quilt and I couldn't be more tickled.  Look at the little rosy cheeks on the blue bird, too darn cute!  I can't wait to see the other 16  blocks.  Yes you read that right, there will be 16 blocks surrounding the large center block.  The 16 blocks are totally free but the center needs to be purchased at a very reasonable price.  Oh now don't get discouraged, this isn't a bait and switch.   Erin will give finishing instructions for 2 quilts.  One with the center block and one without.

The center block is priced very reasonable.  Really it's a small price to pay for you'll be getting.  You can find the fabric requirements and link to the pattern on her blog.   I've already purchased and printed out the center block.   I will be using raw edge applique for this quilt because my spare time is very limited since I started writing and publishing patterns.  I contacted Erin and asked for her permission to share my process of raw edge applique using her pattern and she graciously said yes.  As you all know I'm super busy right now trying to get 4 quilts finished by the end of December but no later than January 11.  So after they are finished I'll start working on the center block or the first free block.  It depends on my speed and when she post the first block.

My colorway for this quilt is going to be my normal pallet of brights.  Mainly because this box of scraps used in 3 of the 4 quilts I'm working on is still sitting on the cutting table.  Might as well use them.  By the looks of the basket I'll need to add some green and yellow from my fat quarter stash.
Maybe even do a little shopping during the end of the years sale.

  1. hey, that looks too much like the Country Bride Quilt pattern from the 80's which I never finished. Might have come from Lancaster in PA...scritches to Khaleesi

  2. I know, aren't her patterns just so beautiful?!!! I really need to do one: will this be the year? :-) And the deal she gives with all those patterns: really a steal!!! I think she only charges for the center pattern just to pay for keeping her store open. She is a delightful designer and quiltmaker!! So glad you are going to participate this year! Hugs, H
