Strawberry Lemonade

Come on in quilters, have a seat while I serve you up a big ole glass of refreshing Strawberry Lemonade.  Oh no this isn't the store bought Lemonade, it's homemade...YUMMY!

Freshly squeezed lemons with big ole chunks of macerated strawberries.  Nothing says warmer weather any better than lemonade.   Add a little strawberry liquor and the world is much better place, well in my world anyway.  It's so nice to finally have this quilt finished.  I love everything about it.  The buttery yellow and tickle me pinks feel so springy and girly.  I learned something new while quilting this one.  Normally when quilting I do tons of ruler work which takes forever.  This one has very little ruler work and quilted up super fast.  I think I might have found a new love....NO RULER WORK!

Over the past few months I've been talking to another quilter about our ever growing fabric stash and what will become of it when we're gone.  Well I don't want to leave this world with a ton of stash hoarded away that no one will love as much as I do.  So I've been very carefully watching what I buy.  Most frame quilters would rather have one solid piece of backing fabric.  Sure that's ideal, but why not use up what we have?   Since this is a scrappy quilt, why not  make it 100% scrappy with a scrappy backing.  It didn't take long to find what I needed in  my stash.

The 100% poly batting helps to show off the quilting.  And unlike cotton batting this quilt will keep you warm.  It's a win win in my book.

Once again I used a super tiny quarter inch binding to finish off the quilt.  The binding fabrics were cut from the excess backing needed when quilting on a frame.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed the lemonade!  You can find a quick recipe for this quilt here.

  1. So refreshing! I discovered the pink/yellow combo one day when my printer was running out of ink and the colorful quilt I was copying came out in pink and yellow only.

  2. You are so prolific! I love your creativity and can't wait to see what you post on your blog. This again is so feminine as was your awesome bunnies. Perfect for spring weather. I only wish our weather was ready for lemonade. But I did see a forsythia begin to bud on my way to work this morning.

  12. I love your strawberry lemonade quilt!!!! It's refreshing as well as gorgeous! Your quilting is the best too. I recently had a quilt custom quilted by a long arm quilter and I was so disappointed with her "custom" work! She says after she quilted it that she isn't that good at free motion! What? Why didn't you tell me that before you quilted it? It was an awkward situation so I didn't say anything to her, but I am not happy with it after all the work I did appliquing the flowers. I guess I should have asked to see her custom work first, but she had been quilting with computerized long arms for years so I assumed she knew what she was doing. So I learned something too and that is to see a quilters cuztom work before having it quilted!

  16. Lovely quilt with very pretty quilting. Many of my customers love to make scrappy backings, I am happy with that as long as they are big enough.

  18. A gorgeous finish! Drama Teen has already informed me that any left over stash will be sold on ebay after I'm gone and she'll put the money away for her kids college education. Could be worse.

  19. What a lovely quilt...so very pretty...it makes me smile just looking at it. I, too, am a lover of all-things-feathered..but I especially like your continuous curve quilting in the chain squares. The combination is a real winner. I've recently put a moratorium on buying fabric. I've got more than I'll ever be able to use. I really should follow your example of making scrappy backings instead of using extra wide backing. It's really hard to pass up beautiful fabrics, though. Blessings...

  21. This is good enough to drink! Love the colors and your quilting! I've never tried strawberry liquor in my in my lemonade...might be worth a try! I've been trying to use up my print stash for backings as well. Its better than letting them sit there and I'm kind of tired of looking at them!

  23. I piece virtually all of my backings. In fact, I'm always feeling a little confused when just one fabric makes up the back!!

  25. What a great way to "get rid" of pink fabric. I prefer the pieced backings, provides more interest.
What do you mean by ruler work? I hadn't heard that term before.
