Good Morning Sweet Quilting Friends! . There's something super cute being stitched up in the Podunk Pretties Studio. Today is the first day of The I Love Home Block of the month. This is my first year being a featured blogger. I'm having a lot of fun adding my own little Podunk twist to this adorable pattern. When I saw the 3 little flowers for block one I immediately knew 3 little yo-yo's would be perfect. They took just a few minutes to make. Also instead of the raw edge fusible applique I decided to do mine as turned edge applique using freezer paper. Jacquelynne has given us the freedom to use our blocks in any way we like. I don't know if I have ever made a yo-yo. I have seen quilts made entirely of yo-yos and I think they are beautiful. I am so new to quilting, there is so much that I have not done. Just bear with me.

ReplyDeleteWhen I was 10 (many many years ago), my aunt taught me how to make yoyos and I made a clown and and an octopus for my bed. I now use yoyos for quilting and flower headbands for granddaughter.

ReplyDeleteYes, One of my Kim Diehl Simple What Knot's quilt's had mini yo-yo's all around the border of the quilt. There were a ton to make, but it looked so adorable when I was finished.

I love the yo-yo flowers in your block. I have just recently added yo-yo flowers to 2 quilts, the Row-by-Row Experience quilt I am making and my State Fair fabric challenge quilt. They added great detail to the quilts.

I have never used yo yo's in a quilt. I have a very good friend who made me a Grandmother's flower garden table mat with tiny yo yo's. I framed it with glass on front and back.

I have used "several" yo-yo's in the past. I once made a "Game Quilt" for my oldest grandson and for the game pieces yo-yo's were used. I have since used them every once in a great while! Thank you
ReplyDeleteI made a clown as a kid with yo yo's and still have it. I have used them in appliqué on several quilts.
