Insomnia quilt block

For the last 2 days I've tossed and turned at night, while visions of quilt blocks bounce around the open space called my brain.  Putting the idea on paper is usually enough to stop the intrusive visions and allow my brain some rest.
Not the case this time.  So if I'm going to be awake I might as well be doing something.  Who would have thought that sleep deprivation could produce such a cute block.
3 hours of sleep must be just the right amount for creative juices to start flowing.
Finally at 4 A.M this morning I felt as though I could sleep.
At 6:32 A.M. I was bright eyed and headed for the coffee pot.  So much for my theory on creative minds.  Even though I've only had 5 hours total sleep in 2 days I feel pretty good.  And I'm ready to make a few more of these Scrappy Basket blocks.
All 16 blocks are cut and ready to be pieced.  Well minus the applique.  Such a simple block that goes together quickly.  This is when saving every last piece of scrap comes in handy.  However digging for them makes quite the mess.
You know as I sit here looking at the 3 blocks on the right...they could be umbrellas or mushrooms if you turn them over.  Much prettier as Baskets.
Anyone interested in making one of these blocks?  Should I write up a tutorial?  I took pictures of the block construction while piecing the test block.  So if your interested just let me know and we'll have a Tutorial Tuesday next week.

  1. Those are really cute blocks. Maybe you could put one of them upside down with some blades of grass and a cute little frog under it.

  6. I spend time in the sewing room at night when I have trouble sleeping. Sometimes just looking at books and patterns. Other times, I sew. Your used your time to create a very interesting basket block.

    1. The quilting is magnificent. Since I don't have a machine that will do what yours does, my options are to hand quilt(NOT on this one), free motion quilting (which I am not proficient with yet), or quilting with my walking foot. I will probably go with the last option, as there is so much fun quilting one can do with the walking foot and a whole lot of pivoting. thank you!
