Dresden Southern Belle Plans

Last week was a total bust in the sewing room. Absolutely no sewing, but late in the week I did find time to work on a project I've been watching closely for a couple of years . . . A Southern Belle Dresden.

It's not my original design, hence "watching closely".  It was drawn from an image on Pinterest that a friend shared with me.  The person who posted it had no information linked and refused to answer any questions.  I've tried a reverse image search many times in the last couple of years and came up with nothing.  A two year rabbit hole of  searching relentlessly to find this pattern.  Enough is enough!  What else could I do but draw up my own.  If you're interested in seeing the original gorgeous Belle, here's a link to the Pin.

My thought for the dresden skirt was to make the dresdens different sizes just so it wouldn't be exactly like the original.  But after thinking it over and realizing how much harder that would be, I decided to keep it simple and make them all the same.  Below is the tools that will be used to make the skirt.

Since the dresden block is my favorite block to make, my stash of dresden rulers is pretty large.  Wedges ranging from 10 degrees and up, in both pointy tops and round top styles.  The EZ Dresden ruler is 18 degrees and will work perfectly for this project except for the slightly rounded end.  My round top templates are too round.

That's where the circle template comes into play.  Sometime this week, I'll make a template for turning under the round top and make my test block.

Below is the fabric pull for the test block.  I might do a little more fabric digging because the dresden fabrics aren't feeling quite right.  The thought of adding a little lace to the dress also crossed my mind.  There's some around here somewhere . . . of course a quick trip to Hobby Lobby is always fun!
See you next, Monday!
