Hello Quilting Buddies! I hope everyone is having a great holiday, whether it be with family and friends or at home enjoying the day doing whatever. We had our family time on Saturday. So today it's just me and Mr. Podunk with no plans other than a few chores and a bunch of whatever suits our fancy.
Today my fancy is saying I need to make one of these scrappy flag quilt blocks designed by Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts. They are all free patterns that can be found on her YouTube Channel and Blog. The video for the flag block can be found here. I've been printing out the FREE PDF's as they have been released. Each one is cute but the flag stole my heart after digging through those two boxes of patriotic fabrics in yesterdays blog post. I need to work with some patriotic fabrics!
The boxes of patriotic fabrics are stored away and I'm not going to dig them out again. But I have more than one stash of fabric scraps. I'm pretty sure I can find the needed scraps in these three scrap baskets.
It's not looking very good for the dark blues but lets do some digging. You never know what could be hiding in there. Maybe a spider or two, YIKES!
Thank goodness there were no spiders or other squeal inducing things hiding in the baskets. Just as I thought there was more than enough scraps to make one block with no fabric repeats.
I also found 2 HST that can be added the the thousands of other HST's I recently finished squaring up. If you missed seeing my mountain of HST's you can find them here.
The fabrics and the pattern are ready to go but....
I still need to get the quilting done on this quilt. She's on the frame but I've yet to add one stitch. I would like to have it completed by this weekend so I can move onto something else. Yes I'm sick of working with black. And I have a huge project planned after this quilt. More on that when it's time to start the project.
So my plan for the week is to finish the Lone Star Quilt and make the flag block into a pillow. Quilting on the frame requires lots of breaks to rest my back. So I came up with a plan, lets call it a compromise. If I quilt a little, I can sew a little. No sewing until a quilting task is completed. The first quilting task is to baste the top of the quilt and finish the top border, then I can press all the flag fabric while taking a break from the frame. I'm not sure how many passes I will need to make on this quilt. So if it only takes 7 passes I will use the alternate plan below to complete both projects. Posting my daily progress here on the blog will help me to stay on track.
Wish me luck! I'm going to need it because I'm not the best at sticking with plans and goals. Remember the plan to only quilt UFO's this year? It quickly changed to adding in a newly pieced gingham porch quilt each month. And now this. There is plenty of time to catch up on both the porch quilts and finish many more UFO quilt tops. Well that is after I finish these two projects and the next HUGE project. See y'all tomorrow with an update!
