To Rock the Boat, Don't rock the boat Baby.....LOL!

I know some of my older followers will remember this song.  It's such a fun one to sing.  Well anyway while piecing this quilt made with the ocean wave block I was trying to think up a name.  I was coming up blank.  Lots of ideas but none of them that had real meaning.

Thank goodness for internet surfing...pun intended! Searching ocean songs, wave songs, and beach songs, poems and Images, much time was wasted.

It couldn't be just any title, this little quilt was quite a chore.  Mini quilts are much harder than full sized.  A few Sailor words have been tossed around the studio in the last week!  

 Not all the points are perfect but seeing how these HST's finish at 3/4 inch I can live with the occasional missing point.

I tried to somehow work in tulips or flowers into the name.   The scraps for this quilt came from the larger quilt you see in the background.  You can find more information about it here.

 Meet "Love and Devotion"  The name came from a line in the song "Rock the boat"  

Our love is like a ship on the ocean

                 we've been sailing with a cargo full of, love and                devotion.  

 It fits perfectly!  Lots of Love and Devotion went into making this little quilt (17x23).  At times I wanted to quit.  

 The binding and the backing are from my older yukky stash.  I like how it looks as a binding but EWWEEE!  Not a fabric on my love list.  

Another mini down and one more to go before I return to the design wall quilt.  Enjoy your weekend, hopefully the snow is melting where you are and you can get out and enjoy some warmer temperatures.  Its supposed to be in the 50's here this weekend and 60 by Monday!  Wow!  60....seems like forever since we've had a day over freezing.  See you soon!

It's almost over

So enjoy it while you can.  100 degree days are just around the corner.  Sometimes you just need to go outside and enjoy the moment, make the best of a bad situation.     My buddy Lobo likes to sunbath in the warm 32 degree sun.  It's better than the 20 below we had, right?!

A  much needed break from the mundane indoor tasks.  So I grabbed Ross's coveralls and my lovely hat....  Beverly at 44th Street Fabric this ones for you!

 Not the prettiest snow angel, I think I need more snow!  Well I'm not wishing for it!  They're calling for more later in the week, but it'll be immediately followed by warm snow melting days.

So who wants to join me in making the seasons last snow angels?  Come on girls!  It'll make you feel good I promise.  Laughter is the best thing for the winter blues, make the best of it and make an angel... who cares if the neighbors think you've finally flipped your lid.  They need to make snow angels too.  Share an angel on your blog or send them here, I'll post them for you.

Tuting Tuesday

Just thought I'd share some tutorials that have caught my eye recently.  With so many quilters and crafters sharing freebies it's hard to pick just one to make! Sometimes they just spark an idea for another project.  Not all of them are new but they are all cute!

Julie over at The Crafty Quilter has put together a wonderful PDF tutorial that can be saved.  Isn't this just the cutest pillow?

Annelies from Sew Blessed   shared a fun Teapot Cozy she made using a tutorial she found.  

This is the tutorial she used.  I don't even drink tea but this cute little Teapot Cozy makes me want to start.  Maybe I could use it to cover my iron?  The only teapot I own is used on my cutting table for tools....HMMM...

When I saw these cute little baskets  over at A Spoonful of Sugar, I knew it was a must make.  Not only could they be used in the studio but they could be used in so many spots throughout the house.  You know I just thought that one of these beside that cute Tea Cozy with tea packets, maybe a cookie or two, napkins...the possiblilities are endless!

Now this little bag inspired an idea for a laundry room wall hanging that I may some day make.  The website isn't in english but with the translate button it's very doable!

And how cute are these Teacup Blocks!    Tessa at the Sewing Chick shared her super cute and super fast teacup, she's grouped four of them together for one large block.

Ahoy Matey!

This weekend was spent conquering the Ocean Waves!  Well these aren't tidal waves just tiny little ripples.  Or should I say TEDIOUS waves.  After searching vast internet ocean of HST's quilt patterns I found this block to be the most appealing.  Changing the size and the center square.  My idea came from She can quilt blog.   Her block is much bigger, 24 inches.

 Sewing these little 1.25 squares together can by quite tricky.  There's so little for the feed dogs to grab.  They want to shift when going over the seams.  With a little trial and error I found that by pulling the chained pieces from the back helped to keep them sailing straight.  

It's not a fast moving voyage.   Each block takes about an hour to piece.  That's about my limit on sitting in one spot.   

Here's a rough draft of the finished product.  15x22  See just smal little ripples...

Let me explain that I didn't cut all these small pieces.  They are clipped corners from this quilt.  Squaring them up was needed.  Throwing away sewable fabric isn't an option.  Many times I've tossed small pieces in the trash only to go back and dig them out.   It's some type of OCD I'm sure of it!  

Well it's back to the studio.  One more coat of paint on the last cabinet!  Yeah!  Now a new decision, what color to paint the walls?  As soon as everything is back in place I'll give you the grand tour of what's been done so far.  Not only have I been painting, but sewing up some accesories.

With all the cold weather and snow quilters have been stitching up a storm.  Slide on over to Judy's to see some warm and inviting design walls that are sure to light a fire in your creativity!
