L' Amour quilt

Yesterday was clean the Studio day and finishing up the Peppermint Posie Quilt top.  It's now a top and stored away for quilting later in the year.  Okay I don't know about you but when my hands start fondling fabrics the quilty wheels start turning.  After hours of fabric straightening and fondling a plan was set in motion at around midnight.

I wish I could remember where and when this cute little charm pack came into my possession.  

Charm packs are a great way to see all the fabrics in a line without committing to a large quantity.  They're also a great for a design challenge.

So let me back up a little in this story.  As I cleaned yesterday I was also having an email conversation with Barbara over at Wonttobequilter.  She's working on a scrappy nine patch...SWOON!  I love scrappy and nine patches.  Here's a few quilts I've made using nine patches and scrap 2.5 squares.  

I'm sure if I dug deeper into the picture files I could find more because the nine patch is a go-to block I've made several times.   Anyway....here's a sneaky peaky at my Barbara inspired nine patches from a charm pack.  The nine patches will be set on point with some applique in the body and border of the quilt.  Of course I had to pull some yardage from the stash(shown in the first picture of this post).  A tip for working with charm packs and making nine patches....Reduce the seam allowance, instead of a scant I'm using a super scant so they can be squared up later.

This years first finish

 My first finish of the year...Yeah!!!   I'm calling her "Scrap Happy Girl"  Made from a bundle of "About a Girl"  By Anni Downs for Henry Glass Fabrics.  I won this cute little bundle during the Flair for Fabric book Hop.  My quilt is similar to the free pattern found at Henry Glass.  Since it's a oversized baby quilt I decided to keep the quilting simple.  Using my DM I quilted simple straight lines, just enough to hold the batting in place. 

Trying my best to use every last piece of fabric I pieced a scrappy back.

And a scrappy binding.  

I also whipped together two  16 inch pillow shams.  You can read more about the Bike pillow here.

I spy something super sweet in the photo below...do you?  HINT....I'm obsessed with this tasty little fruit.

Here the leftovers, maybe enough for a mug rug.  It would be a shame not to use those little flowers after making them.  That's a project for another day.

It can only get better

Good Monday Morning sweet friends!  There's been a lot going on in Podunk but none of it quilty related.  I've barely stepped foot in the Studio over the last two weeks.  But all that is about to change.  I'm ready to get stitchy!  A couple more rounds on the log cabin style blocks below is needed.  

My design wall hasn't changed much.  I had hoped to get the Posy quilt finished by the time we had our Christmas dinner however the flu bug had planned festivities of its own.  My plan was a better but you can't argue with the flu bug he wins everytime.  So I figure whats the rush now that Christmas has passed.  You know me I'm always looking for any excuse to move onto the next project(wink wink).  I'm looking forward to the new year now that the flu has come and gone. The year can only get better when you start out on such a low point.

A new year and a new project

What better way to ring in the new year than with new fabric and a new project.  Back in November Henry Glass Fabrics hosted "A Flair for fabric" Blog Hop.  I won this cute bundle of "About a Boy About a Girl" by Annie Downs.  It was a fun hop to follow, meeting many new to me quilt and fabric designers.  

Janet Nesbitt from Buggy Barn quilts was the one being highlighted on the day I won.  Now I gotta know do you enter every give away you can?  I tend to only enter if I really like/want the prize.  So I was super surprised when I actually won!

I also won a digital copy of the book below....admitting I've been drooling over this one at the LQS since it's arrival.  Winning it made me giggle like a little girl!  Now which quilt to I make first?  I can't decide so for now I'll do my own thing.

That brings me back to that sweet little bundle of fabric.  This is the first time that I've worked with Henry Glass fabrics, at least to the best of my memory.  I'm loving the quality of the fabric and will definitely be keeping an eye on the new lines coming out. 

There was no real plan, I just flew by the seat of my pants.  After a little head tilting and EQ design blahs I decided to try scanning in part of the panel....

With the help of photo editing and EQ  I printed out an enlarged block for applique.

Not sure exactly where this idea is going but I'm loving it!
