Back Porch Blooms

Good Monday Morning sweet quilting friends!   Hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.    Mine was spent quilting my latest block design and working up a few inspiration quilt designs in EQ7.  The tutorial for this block will be tomorrow(Tuesday).  I've some fun things planned, a linky party and a giveaway or two, maybe 3.  You can read more about it here.

My original plan was to use this block in a larger quilt.  But the larger quilt is so cute I'd rather use some super cute fabric...like...Pam Kitty!  So I quickly added some borders, slapped in a few pins, and now I'm adding the quick quilting with my domestic sewing machine.  I'm so anxious to get this done so I can cut into some Pam Kitty.  Purrr....

It's really hard to stick with my plan of no applique.  There's so many great places on this quilt to add a little touch of applique for the "WOW" factor.  For instance the center of this bloom could use a simple circle or some pumpkin seed shapes to dress it up a bit.

There was a pretty good response to my idea about the linky party to share your Back Porch Blooms blocks and quilts made from them.  So I started thinking  some of you may need more time due to jobs and life events.  How about we stretch this out over May, June, and July.  Each week there will be a Tuesday linky party.  You can link up your progress which will automatically enter you in the month's give away.  A sneak peak this Tuesday of a few things collected for this months giveaway.  There's two more quilts I'd like to make using this block, or potions of this block.  My plan is to share the wall hanging pattern this week, a medium sized quilt pattern next month and then a larger quilt pattern in July.  I can't wait to get started on the next one....so cute!

Ok, start digging through those scraps and fat quarters, I'll be back tomorrow with the block tutorial and instructions for a small one block wall hanging.

  3. Now I can't resist. I'm in. A couple of weeks is a real stretch for me, but a few months makes it more likely I'd actually get something done.

  6. Your flower pot block is darling! I agree, some small applique details would really put it over the top. Why did you make a No Applique rule, anyway? Wanting to keep it simple so more people can keep up with the sew along? I think sewing rules are made to be broken. Like, "no wine in the studio" and "no buying new fabric until the old fabric is used up." Hah!
