Peter Rabbit - Friday finish

Quilted, bound, washed and ready to be used.  It feels great to finally finish this after a year or two in the needs to be quilted pile.  The pattern is my take on The Crafty Quilters Peter Rabbit wall hanging. You can find the tutorial for her wall hanging here.

The quilt has no border, instead I carried the sashing design out for the border.  Because the sashing has cornerstones I had to use a super small binding that finishes at a quarter inch.  The normal binding that uses 2.5 strips of fabric would have made the cornerstones look like rectangles.    Cutting the 1.5" strips of fabric on the bias made it a little easier when it came to hand stitching it to the back of the quilt.

There's really nothing more I can say about this quilt so I'll just show you a few more close ups and call it day.

Somebunny's been quilting

 Hoppy Monday quilting friends!  Let's jump in with both feet by having a little before and after show.  So this is before....

...and so is this one.

Lets see one more.  I could show you more but I'll save it for when the quilt is finished.  We'll just hop to information about the quilt pattern.  The first question I always get is: 

"Where can I get this pattern?" 

Answer:  it's a free pattern by TheCraftyQuilter that I changed to suit my needs.  You can find the one block  wall hanging by clicking here. 

Julies bunny pattern is absolutely perfect.  So perfect that I thought it was a good idea to make a larger quilt.  Well when doing the quilty math I realized some changes were needed in the pattern to fit my fabric stash.  Sadly the flowers had to go in order to reduce the size background fabric. A simplified tail for an easier applique shape.

Next question 

"What line of fabric did you use?"

  The fabric used is a mishmash of several different fabrics.  Most of the florals are old WalMart fabrics, about 12 yrs old.  The pink gingham is a thrift store baby bed skirt.  The pink stripe is a crib sheet. The solids in the quilt are Joann  and Hancock's fabrics.  Throw some designer fabrics into the mix from Moda and Riley Blake and you have a super cute quilt that breaks some quilting rules.

Lets not forget the backing.  It's two blue pieces(different colors) of poly cotton blend.  Next question: 

What type of batting do you use to get the puffy look?

 Answer: WalMart low loft Poly batting.  Sorry girls it's true.  You can't beat the price, and it looks good.  I've tried every batting out there and I always go back to Poly.

A lot of Bunny Business Going On

Good Morning everybunny!  It's going to be another beautiful Spring day.  There's been so much going on around here I've not had time to post in a few days.

The weekend was spent stitching the bunnies down with invisible machine applique.  Well as invisible as I can get with my Singer sewing machine.  It won't let me make my stitches as narrow as I like.  But until my favorite machine gets out of the shop this is the best I can do.

Now that they're all secure, there's fabric to cut away from some of the backs due to shadowing.  

Not all the blocks will need the background fabric cut away but I thought since I had to do a few I might as well do them all.  The cut away pieces make some pretty good size scrap that can be cut into squares for another quilt.

See how the background fabric showing through on the one below?   

YUK!

And this one is super cute but it too has a shadow lurking behind him.

There's interfacing on the backs that of these blocks that also needs to be removed.

These little cuties will be put on hold for awhile.  This weekend I started a new project that needs to be done quickly in between the Podunk Posy quilt and tutorials.  I'll fill you in on the details of the new quilt tomorrow.
