Bumpkin Pumpkins ~ UFO Quilt #6 2023

Bumpkin Pumpkins is finally finished!  This UFO is about 4 or 5 years old.  It's one of my own original designs.  The quilting was finished months ago on October 15, 2022.  The next day I sewed the binding on the front of the quilt with every intentions of having this gal done before Halloween 2022.  As you can see that didn't happen.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of orange or black I really like how this one turned out and I can't wait to use it this coming fall.

It could be the many Lori Holt prints that make me love it so much.  All but 3 of the prints are Lori Holt.

For the backing I choose to use what I had on hand.  An orange and white polka dot and the rest of the black gingham, neither are Lori fabrics but the dot is Riley Blake.  And in true Lea Anne style I had to throw in one Joann fabric.  Yep the black gingham in the border and on the back are good ole cheap fabric and I love it!

Then to finish her off, a quick hand written label.  The binding is the 3rd non Lori fabric but it is quilt shop quality but I can't remember what line or designer.

Oh, I just noticed the date is wrong and this label was put on the quilt before quilting.   GEESH.

Until next time...

I hope you find time to stitch up something sweet!

Throwback Thursday ~ Hillbilly Hookup Quilt

Hello Quilty Friends!  Come on in!  Grab a cup of whatever, pull up a chair and lets take a little stroll down memory lane.  When you've made as many quilts as I have over the years, you tend to forget about a few.  My Hillbilly Hookup is one of those quilts.

There's no pattern, it's my own design based off of a double wedding ring quilt.  The arcs were cut from panels I made by string piecing together strips of scrap fabric.  Instead of buying a double wedding ring template I used the EQ6 program to print out the arc template.  And instead of doing the traditional curved piecing of the Double Wedding Ring, this one is 100% appliqued on on large piece of background fabric.  You can read more about that process here.  The day I finished the quilt can be found here.

The big posy to cover where the arcs come together was a cute way to finish off the non traditional Double Wedding Ring quilt.  I absolutely adore this quilt and wish I had made it larger.  It finishes somewhere between 40 and 60 inches, I don't remember and right now she's taking a much needed soak in the washing machine.

So what made me remember the quilt?  Well, I've been doing the yearly washing of the displayed quilts I have around the house.  Believe it or not I sit right beside this one several times a week for hours on end but never even notice it being right beside me.  The little green cabinet below(made by me and Mr. Podunk) is beside my sewing machine(on the upper left of this picture).  Hillbilly Hookup is near the bottom of the stack in the cabinet.  Today I'll also be washing the small quilts you see at the top of the picture.  Those are sitting on top of one of my fabric storage cabinets.

The yearly cleaning of the quilts often leads me down an organizing and cleaning rabbit hole.  So don't be surprised if I bring you along for that mess.  Winter is a good time to get things done inside because it won't be long before we start planting the veggie garden and doing tons of yardwork.  YIPPEE!  I love yardwork and gardening. I truly do!

Until next time...

I hope you find time to stitch up something sweet!

Gingham Quilts ~ Two, Three and Four

Yah!  I'm ahead of schedule with my Gingham Porch Quilt of the Month for 2023.

Since these quilts will be used as decor for the rocking chair on the front porch I'm using the cheapest fabric I can find.  So far Hobby Lobby Kona cottons and Walmart Waverly solids have been working out great.  I've also used some poly cottons like the navy blue below.

Then with the scraps I'm making a scrappy backing.

The red one didn't turn out very well. But I think it'll be good enough for the front porch.

The pattern used to make these quilts is a free PDF and can be found by clicking here.  It's very well written and easy to assembly.  I could have done the math myself but why?

I changed a couple things in the pattern.  First was the fabric requirements. I decided to start out with 2 yds of each print and use the scraps to make the backing instead of using a separate fabric for the backing. The second change was made the green quilt.  The pattern instructions call for strip sets and subcutting  them.  I found that to be a pain with the strip sets being so large.  So I cut the strips and then subcut the strips into squares.  For me this was quicker and easier.

Each quilt is quilted exactly the same.  Just jumping from corner to corner to give the illusion of continuous circles.  And as for a quilt label, nothing fancy is needed since it may not survive life in the wild. I used a permanent fabric pen to add my name and the date on the back of each quilt.

Now to decide what color I should make next.

Maybe a nice soft pretty spring color? Pink? Yellow? Lavender?

Until next time...

I hope you find time to stitch up something sweet!

Amour Cerise or Amour De Cerise?~ UFO Quilt #5 2023

Hello Quilting friends!  Today I'm excited to share my Amour Cerise(Cherry Love) quilt.

Quilted, bound, washed and ready to be stored away until Valentines Day next year.

The quilting was kept somewhat simple. Lots of stitch in the ditch and free motion feathers.

The applique is fusible raw edge with 100 wt. thread to hold it into place.

The large crosshatching is spaced every 2 inches and was marked 100% before putting it on the quilting frame.

I decided to see if I could find some of this fabric for sale online.  There was no plan to purchase it, I was just curious to see if it was still out there.  I thought this line of fabric was called Amour Cerise.  When I Googled Amour Cerise by Moda there was no such thing but I did find the real name of this line is L'Amour or translated LOVE.   Now how did I come up the name Amour De Cerise?  I have no idea what was going on in my head way back then.  But I decided I should recheck my my translation, it could be wrong too.

I'm so confused when it comes to the online translator.  Take a look.  It hurts my brain and I'll leave it at that.

So now I'm faced with the label issue.  Take a look at this...I misspelled Cerise!  UGGG!  It would have been nice to have noticed this BEFORE stitching it into place.  Fiddlesticks!  If I leave it as is, this quilt will survive for 1000 years and with my name in big bold letters after the misspelled word.  How tacky would it be to cross out the H with a marker?...HAHA!  Okay....I'll make a new label, remove the DE and correct my spelling...just not today.  This is going into the needs a label stack of quilts.

Until next time...

I hope you find time to stitch up something sweet!

Here's a video I made about this quilt for Facebook.  It contains a little more information about the quilt.
