Oh what have I done

It's that time again, show off you're design wall, NO MATER WHAT!
Hop on over to Judy's and  Freshly Pieced to get a good dose of creativity.

Do you ever think "Well I've gone to far on this one"?  Yep..too too far with the colors.  Maybe that teal was just way too TEAL.  What's done is done, the only thing I can do now is to find a way to slow down the teal.  My quilty Mojo has been on the fritz, maybe I should have left it alone.
Such a lovely block..and my intentions were good.  Go loud and proud!  Make'm go WOW!  Instead I get the HOLY $#!& feeling.
My thought was to come in and Hexi off the corners of the TEAL block with some white.  Maybe add some more applique in the corners of the blocks?  What's even sadder is that the yellow and the TEAL in the quilt are vintage.  Not super old, but from the early 80's.   Maybe I'm over reacting due to my crappy mood.
This quilt reminds me of my first(and last) experience eating Cherries Jubilee.  Valentines Day, I was a 14 yr old country girl.  The nicest restaurant I'd been in was Steak and Shake.  Well dad and I had lunch at a REAL restaurant.  He ordered for us.  They brought out the Cherry dessert on a cart, parked it right by the table and set it on fire!  My first thought was how in the world  am I supposed to eat that!  So I sat back in my seat for fear of setting my over hair sprayed head on fire and watched as my dad blew out the blaze.   Oh it's like roasting marshmallows!  I like a little black on my marshmallows, so my thought was to let'er burn.  The waiter, seeing me hesitate with eyes the size of dinner plates, promptly put out the blaze with a metal plate cover.  Of course dad giggled, and said "I should have warned you."
So how can I put out this blaze?  I think gale force winds would be hard pressed to put out this fire!  For now I'm walking away from this quilt so I don't get burned.

Enough whining, I wanted to share also share the way I squared up these 18.5 blocks.  Last week Erin Russek made a short tutorial.  The only thing I did differently was to do this method on my cutting mat.

Hope you have a Cherry Day!
Lea Anne

    1. I was going to say the same thing. I'm not wild about the yellow.

  2. WOW!! There, that's the reaction you wanted...right! I'm having a good LOL at your Cherries Jubilee experience and the analogy to this quilt. It's kinda like what you did because of your over sprayed hair....backup and think about what it will look like if it is over stitched...quilted. Perhaps TEAL thread on the white blocks, and WHITE thread over the teal blocks. The quilting shadows and color of thread will set those blazing colors back a notch. After all Teal is a blue that recedes in space. I think the yellow will become less noticeable when it's quilted. You have done a beautiful job. You are right to let it rest awhile. Thanks for stopping by and commenting on my 'Shirt Quilt'.

  3. Well, if you don't like it, send it to me! I love it. In this day and age with so much gloom and doom in the political news, it's nice to have a jolt of bright and happy! XO Bev

  7. My second BOM was like that. I liked most of the blocks but there were 5 that I didn't. I put them away for 3 years and then a couple of years ago I wanted to make a quilt for a friend dying of cancer. I pulled out those blocks and made one of the most beautiful quilts I have ever done. I think they just had to marinate for a while.

  8. I agree with all the other comments, I love the colors. It's bright and it's fun. But that you like it matters most. Were you planning to add a border? If so, you might play a bit and see if there is something in your stash that makes it look calmer.

  9. I love the whole thing, I think the colors look great together. If you think it is too much teal, then don't add more teal but maybe play up the white in the border.

  10. That is the cutest dresden I've ever seen. I pinned it. I'm seriously crushing on it right now.

When I look at the quilt, the blue & white doesn't bother me. This is just my opinion, but I think it's the yellow that puts it over the top. And since that's only a few strips in the sashing, that would be much easier to take out.

  12. All together it's lovely! Loud and proud is right! Thanks for sharing, I really do like it :)

  13. I love the teal too! I hope you don't mind but I would suggest you take out all the sashing. It's so distracting and I agree the yellow doesn't work. I think it would look beautiful just to sew the blocks together or if you like sashing then just use red and skip the cornerstones. The cherry dresdens are absolutely gorgeous!

  14. I really like the teal - it gives it a cool retro feel - especially with the cherries in the middle - think the "Pink Ladies" (ala movie Grease) having cherry ice-cream in a popular diner :)
