Design Wall Monday

Here we are again, it's Monday and I've very little progress to share.  Excuse?   Oh you bet ya!  Tons of them, none of them really good but I'm a master at giving them.  The Posy's are all together, all that's needed is three more corner blocks we'll have a flimsy.   That is if I don't get distracted by other things.

Like this little stack of cuteness.  I also made my own 2.5 template for cutting scrap patches.  Quicker and cheaper than running into town to buy one.  I won't be using it with the charm pack.  But the other little template....maybe...it's still in the thinking stage.

My next excuse for lack of quilting progress is my garden.  In the spring there's just not enough hours in the day to get everything done.  Today is manure and compost day for the unplanted parts of the garden so I can plant the last of the veggies.

And we're still working on Operation Free Range.  Lobo is doing his best, he's had one little mishap.  Long story short, a chicken startled and attacked him.  By the time I saw him he had feathers sticking out of his mouth.  It was hilarious!  The chicken survived with only a few lost feathers.  He's very intense and takes the job of "watching" the chickens serious.  If they are out of the coop, he's got his eye on them.  Now the real question is...Is he watching or stalking?

Our dream....may not be a reality.

  1. Love that quilt!! And as for Lobo - you just can't change nature. God bless him, it must be torture. Good luck with your hens.

  2. I bet he is thinking if he doesn't want another one sneaking up on his blind side... or he is hoping one dose and he can get another chance for a feather dinner...

  3. When you let the chickens out, how do you get them back in the coop? It can't be safe for them to be out at night. Does feed bring them in? Just asking as someone who knows nothing about chickens...

  4. Stay on that Posie quilt, it's just lovely and you are so close. Of course, myself, I work on blocks, and then maybe sewing blocks together on another quilt, also binding a quilt for down time, and lastly perhaps cutting new blocks that require a mass of something altogether different. So the whole mass moves forward slowly. You have a lovely garden to keep as well. All that to say, I love your quilt, and you are nearly there. Bravo.

  9. Your Lobo looks much like our Amos we loved and lost. It makes me smile when you post his pics with the chickens. :) Hang in there on your quilt - you're almost there!

  10. This quilt is wonderful! I would love to make this, but need to add it to my list. Too many other things need to be made first. Thanks for all of the tutorials!! Hope all is well.

  11. Your quilt is really coming together now! I'd love to have chickens here, but our coyote and fox population would make quick work of them. So keep the pictures coming of your little flock for me!

  14. That is just the greatest quilt (and it would look Oh! So Amazing! on my bed....LOL). Actually, it really would... Your work is just lovely, and I am with you on those 30's Reproduction fabrics and brights. I love the feedsack fabrics, too! I have always had a secret hankering for chickens, oddly enough, my mother and I were discussing the idea just last night. Unfortunately, my bulldog would definitely be a "stalker" rather than a guardian of any flock I acquired. Love your work, your garden and your chickens - really enjoyed seeing them all!

  15. How funny, Lea Anne! One of my Rottweilers hunts birds and squirrels and occasionally catches them. She had a woodpecker last week, but fortunately we were able to run outside and intervene before any harm was done. I hope your dog learns to love and protect the chickens rather than stalk and hunt the chickens...

I absolutely love your tulip border! This quilt is going to be so pretty and you are so close to finishing the flimsy stage. The charm square template is a great idea for scraps. Every once in awhile I think about getting one of those GO! Baby die cutter contraptions to motivate me to cut up scraps into usable patches as they accumulate instead of shoving them all in the (overflowing, disorganized, afraid-to-go-in-there) scrap bin. Then I remember how much those cutter machines cost, and continue shoving uncut scraps in the bin as usual!

  17. What an adorable post from the gorgeous quilt, to the lovely 30s fabrics and new plants popping up from the ground, right down to the wonderful dog and chicken story. You live in a beautiful place!

  18. Hee hee, "morning Ralph"! Best cartoon ever, and a lofty goal for your pup. Although, if a chicken attacked me that's about how I'd react! I love your nearly-flimsy, what a fabulous design! It's so happy, and will look great when you get it together. How are you planning to have it quilted?
